Volunteers, including board members, are The Animal Union’s most important resource. They perform most of the “heavy lifting” for The AU. Since we will not be working directly with animals (at least in the first couple of years of operations) but will concentrate on raising money for other animal rescue organizations, the various tasks we perform may not be for those who prefer hands-on rescue or shelter work. However, our tasks are still very rewarding and much-needed and definitely benefit a large number of animals. Please e-mail or call us if you are interested or have any questions.
We are in need of people with a sincere love of and respect for all animals and the following skills, attributes or experience:
- A friendly, welcoming attitude when representing The AU before the public
- Candidates for the Board of Directors
- Technical computer expertise in desktop publishing, graphic design, database management, Excel spreadsheets, technical troubleshooting, content management systems, CSS and HTML coding, etc.
- Social networking, e-newsletters and blogging on animal issues
- Event planning and production
- Marketing, publicity, public relations, corporate communications, and public service announcements
- Grant research and writing
- Hospitality and catering services
- Project management
- Accounting/auditing/bookkeeping/tax returns
- Photography, videography and video editing
- Direct marketing and mailing and e-mailing list rental and management
- Nonprofit legal issues, public policy and lobbying
- Data entry
- Direct and affiliate online sales and auctions
These functions may be included in the work of a board committee, in which case a board member would supervise the work, or they may be conducted by individual volunteers with minimal supervision.
